Yorktown photo

Our trip begins on Saturday, January 13th and concludes on Monday, January 15th

Patriot’s Point on Charleston Harbor is a Naval Museum with not only the Yorktown, but a Coast Guard cutter, a destroyer, and a WWII submarine. We will tour the Yorktown, eat meals there in the crew’s galley, and sleep in the crew’s quarters!

The Yorktown is a World War II era aircraft carrier; she is nearly 900 feet long, weighs 27,000 tons, had a crew of nearly 3,500, and carried over 80 aircraft. She was called the “Fighting Lady” and is one of the most highly decorated warships of the U.S. navy. Since 1985 she has been on display at patriot’s Point and has been visited by over 350,000 people. For more infomation on the ship, visit the offical history site

Our itinerary includes:

Sat (Jan 13th): Charter bus from St. Martin’s to Charleston

Sun (Jan 14th): Tour Yorktown (must arrive promptly at 9AM!)

Mon (Jan 15th): Breakfast on board the Yorktown

Hotel Reservations:

We have made arrangements with the Patriot's Point Holiday Inn for a discounted group rate of $69.00 per night for our Scout Troop for January 13, 2007. Please call 800-290-4004 to make your reservations and ask for the Boy Scout Troop #563 group rate. This rate is also available for a second night, January 14, 2007, for those who do not wish to spend the night on the Yorktown.

Costs:

The Pack will pay for the chartered bus and Yorktown entry fee for the scouts. Each scout must be accompanied by a parent. Parents will be responsible for their own Yorktown fee (approximately $55) and the hotel on Saturday night (a special rate of $69 will be available for the group for a limited time only; you can arrange to share, if you wish).

What to bring? Each person must bring a sleeping bag, pillow, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, towel, wash cloth and all other necessary personal effects. Insect repellent is advisable

Commitment dates: Yes, January does seem a long way off, but we must secure our reservation with the Yorktown by November 15th (that means how many and a check!)…so, we need to know, for sure, by October 15th and have your funds by November 1st. But. . . you don’t have to wait until then. You can make your reservation anytime by emailing Anne Wilson.

We’ll also have to confirm how many will be on the chartered bus (it holds 55);

We will publish more information and a status of reservations periodically; we’ll also include a hotel reservation number and the appropriate cut-off date for the discounted rate.
